In life, it indeed seems like just one short step between the happy innocence of the school prom
and the turbulent, politically-charged atmosphere of the office party. Yet just as proper etiquette
training has safely steered you through one, so it will enable you to graciously maneuver your
way through the other. The most important point to remember is that, at any office party, the
greatest faux pas imaginable is to be even slightly less drunk than the person with whom you are
currently interacting. For every company secret they give you, you must offer one up in turn; for
every bit of malicious gossip about fellow co-workers, you must offer one at precisely the same
level of mean-spiritedness; and for every crude remark made about the way somebody is
dressed, you must make an equally rude remark about somebody dressed equally
inappropriately for the occasion......
